Chiropractic adjustments correct spinal subluxations, relieving stress from the nervous system, allowing it to communicate freely with the rest of our body and improving our body’s movement and overall health.

Asthma, Eczema and Allergies

Asthma causes the airways to swell and get narrow which leads to wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Asthma and allergies often coincide and are the number one cause for missed school.
Eczema is a form of atopic dermatitis that presents itself in the form of dry rough skin that is a red itchy rash and can appear anywhere on the body or in just a few areas. Eczema is the result of an inborn tendency toward dry skin and allergies.

How Can Chiropractic Help?

Research has shown that an imbalance may exist in the nervous system that supplies the bronchial tubes of an asthmatic individual. Children often have great improvement in asthmatic symptoms with regular chiropractic treatments to correct this imbalance.
Chiropractic treatments can be highly effective in treating eczema. When a childs immune system has dysfunction or subluxation’s occuring, the body is more likely to exhibit diseases such as eczema. Chiropractic care corrects subluxations of the spine allowing the body’s nervous system to function at its optimal level thus increasing the bodys natural immune system to fight diseases.

Behavioral and Learning Disorders

Behavioral and learning disorders can include Autism, ADD/ADHD and Dyslexia and are characterized by:

  • an inability to learn which cannot be explained by intellectual, sensory or health factors
  • an inability to build satisfactory relationship with peers and teachers
  • inappropriate types of behavior or feelings under normal circumstances
  • a general pervasive mood or unhappiness or depression, or
  • a tendency to develop physical symptoms or fear associated with personal or school problems
  • an interferes with a person’s ability to store, process, or produce information

How Can Chiropractic Help?

Musculoskeletal imbalance will create imbalance of brain activity, and one part of the brain will develop faster than the other. Chiropractors apply correct treatment modalities to stimulate brain growth through plasticity. Chiropractors identify subluxations and different sensory stimuli that specifically affect the deficient hemisphere and thus help normalize brain function.

Delayed or Altered Neuromuscular Development

Neuromuscular disorder is a broad term that encompasses many different syndromes and diseases that either directly or indirectly impairs the function of the skeletal muscles, the muscles that move the limbs and trunk. This can be through problems with the muscle structure itself (pathology) or problems found in the signal that is sent to the muscle, such as through a nerve. This can include conditions such as Cerebral Palsy and Muscular Dystrophy.

How Can Chiropractic Help?

  • Improved motor control and neuromuscular development (head control, rolling, crawling, standing with support, without support)
  • Improved balance
  • Improvement in speech (clarity and volume)
  • Improved sleep patterns
  • Overall improvement of all systemic function (eyes, ears, heart, lungs, digestion, immune function…)
  • Decreased muscle spasticity
  • Decreased seizures
  • Decreased irritability
  • Decreased incidence of respiratory and other infections
  • Decreased pain

Ear Infections

What is an Ear Infection?

Kids are most prone to developing ear infections in the first 2 to 4 years of life. An ear infection means that fluid (usually pus) is in the middle ear, causing pain, redness of the eardrum, and possible fever. Ear infections are the most common reason for antibiotic prescriptions for children, but the Canadian Pediatric association recommends “watchful waiting approach” for children over 6 months, because the evidence-based research about antibiotics is showing that not only are they ineffective at treating ear infections, but they will actually lead to repeated ear infections in children.

How Can Chiropractic Help?

The tensor veli palatini muscle, which acts as an active opener for the middle ear and allows for fluid drainage, is innervated by C1-4 and a few cranial nerves. When caring for kids with ear infections chiropractors clear out any spinal subluxations with special attention given to the upper cervical vertebrae. The intent is that when the adjustment holds the tensor veli palatini will function better and proper drainage will occur.Ear infections will decrease and if they can continue to drain without a buildup of fluid and subsequent infection, they build up their own antibodies and recover more quickly.
